Moved - Long Distance

I recently moved from Calgary AB to Innisfail AB and people in my new current local area have to dial long distance to call. Can I change this without changing my number?

Remember, local calling areas are not the same as province-wide calling packages.

If your friends do not have a calling plan capable of calling you at no cost, they will incure long distance charges in some fashion, even if you are on a province wide calling plan.

I have a 226 number in Ontario, but I still must dial long distance to reach some other 226 area codes numbers, and all the other area codes also, however as I'm on a province-wide plan, I do not incur the extra charges.

@willie444 Innisfail falls under the Red Deer local calling area

So dialing a Calgary number would be long distance

Only way around it is to change your number (or let others dial long distance if they have free province wide plans; good way to promote some refers to Public)

That's correct, you will need to change your number all together. You can't just change the area code and keep the same number.

Sorry, but this isn't possible.  A Calgary-based phone number cannot be changed to belong to another city. That phone number will forever be a Calgary phone number.  If you want a phone number that is local for other people to call you from Innisfail, you have no choice but to change your phone number.

Unfortunately you won't be able to without changing your current number. You have a option to change your number to your new location but if someone calling you need a Canada wide calling, if they don't live in same province as you are or they will get a long distance charges. And for you same rules once you update your number then you will also need a Canada wide plan or long distance add-on to make out of province calls you won't get long distance charges because you won't be able to call since pm is all about pure prepaid.
But if you do have a data plan then you can download third party app like hangout dialer then call over Wi-Fi or data for long distance and other end still receive your actual current number.

No way around this without changing your number. People who call you need provincewide or Canada wide calling.

You should be able to go into the self serve portal and use the change number option to select one with a local area code.  Use the select new number option.  Take a look at the very informative link.
