Just read the news about Lucky mobile providing unlimited data at 128 kbps after alllotted 3g data is used for any plans starting at 25$. I know 128 kbps is super slow but i have used 256 kbps data for sending messages and even calling via whatsapp on Tmobile about a year ago while roaming internationally. Also the fact that we can have 'usable' data instead of being completely cutoff after allocated data is used is a huge plus.
Will PM follow suit? Would be awesome if they did.

That's an article from may 14th. It is surely fixed soon after. Whatsapp releases app updates every few days and all vulnerabilities are immediately fixed.

Ofcourse. Good luck!

Thanks for detailed explanation will install and try and see who's on it. " The interesting thing about whatsapp is, the app automatically shows you all the people in your contacts who use that app."

You could still renew early or buy a data add-on even if you were moved to throttled speed because you went over. You are not stuck.

@BEER So your recipient will also need to have that app installed on his/her phone. Otherwise you cannot send them messages through it. The interesting thing about whatsapp is, the app automatically shows you all the people in your contacts who use that app. You then select the person and send him a text, picture, video, word documents, pdf files etc. You can also call them/video chat via voip even if they are in a different country as long as they are connected to the internet. It's like an all in one app. It's owned by Facebook and has over 1.5 billion users across the world. My family lives in India and I call /video chat with them with this app essentially for free. Obviously u pay for what data you use on the app - wifi or your cellular data. Whatsapp doesn't charge you for using thier app.

Well just perhaps I'm behind the times and should look into the "whatsup" app. I will do some google research and see whatsup -- LOL. Just a quick question -- with the whatsup app can one text persons that do not have the app installed and still use MMS ?

@BEER i mentioned in my previous comments, for me atleast, I extensively use whatsapp as my primary communication app. Nobody in my contacts use SMS anymore. The app will run just fine at 128 kbps instead of being cutoff in a scenario where I run out of my data. Also I am sure i can check emails with text easily with those speeds alternative being completely cutoff until I find wifi or until my renewal.

Thanks for explanation. But why would one require this snail pace extra for texting when PM’s even low cost $15/month plan includes unlimited texting?
I know sleazy Bell ( Lucky Mobile) is trying to curb the exodus of dissatisfied customers. I in vain have been trying to block their emails wanting me back offering stupid short term incentives . I have even received two free Lucky Mobile SIM cards that I should shred before I get a moment of insanity and activate one .

@BEER 128 kbps is definitely not for loading websites especially the ones with high amount of pictures/graphics. This data is usable for texting over apps, opening text only mails etc. Just enough to sail through the days where you do not have your 3g data.

Anything extra data at no cost is welcomed. However I find that 3G speeds that are supposed to be between 350 to 500 Kbps are slow to load websites so I can't even imagine that they would even load at 128 Kbps.

@geopublic Oh yes, almost all US carriers have unlimited data plans even for budget carriers. Canada is still in the process of catching up.

@maheshboloor wrote:@kselmak Definitely, the 1 gb free data is very much appreciated. I am totally happy being with PM. Since Lucky mobile is a direct competitor, new customers maybe swayed towards LM if they are looking for budget plans with this new update.
Almost 99% of my contacts are on whatsapp and its the one app which keeps me connected and the fact that i can still be connected even after my data is used up is a huge huge plus. Fingers crossed about PM doing the same.
@maheshboloor It's obvious this is where the Industry is going so PM will not take long to offer this with their plans. The 1GB gift is a stop measure to minimize customer turnover while it implements the necessary changes. Brilliant move by the way.
My guess is that within the next 5 years data plans will disappear and apps will offer direct to consumer service and the carries will collect the toll.

Public mobile typically follows many promotions from the competition. Hopefully, PM will offer this in the near future. But, who really knows.
08-21-2019 10:17 AM
@kselmak Exactly my point. You are more than free to add data add-ons and pay up if you want regular speed data. But if u r out of data and there are still, say, 2 days left, I would be more than happy to use the low speed data and not be disconnected from mu family and friends wen not near wifi instead of adding an expensive 30$ add on.

I was once stuck in a hospital for over a week. By mistake all cache was wiped and neatly cleaned up so when i connected next time without realising all my data was drained. If i had that slow connection i would have been able to just buy more data, well since i was less than 10 days into my cycle i would just update, i didn't know how long i would be there and i couldn't leave. That slow connection would probably not keep many connected but it would help and could also give instant access to bigger plan.
So i called my relative gave him my credentials and asked to upgrade my plan and offcourse he gets lost freaks out and removes my autopay and doesn't upgrade me immediately but postdates it, it's not working and i don't know why.
Than he remembers that my birthday is in 2 days and he goes to fido store and gets a ' free' tablet with fido data 3gigs for 15 per month. Now I'm suck with it. I should have told him to take it back but i didn't have hearth and i accepted to take over those payments, fido connection sucks where i am

@mimmo I recently joined PM and i am on the 5 GB plan. I am at 4 gb now with about 6 days left for this cycle. I should be safe for this month.
But thats not the point here. With limited data, there is a small chance for almost everyone to go above there limit at somepoint and you maybe be far from wifi. 128 kbps could literally be a life saver (Example: Calling uber when your data is used up. This is just one scenario. There could be hundreds of it).

256 speed would be nice
They just gifted us 1g add-on that doesn't expire, I was actually wandering if that is related to it.
I would prefer slow infinite, but I believe anniversary bonus would win many
