If I lose my phone and get a new SIM card, can I keep my old phone number?

YES

However, only if your service hasn't been inactive (without renewal payments) for greater than 90 days.

After that, the service, attached number, and SIM in the device become unusable.

Here is another thread https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Get-Support/Lost-phone/td-p/776779 that has posed exactly the same question as this one.  Lots of people losing phones lately.

Feel free to read through the thread.  It had some excellent answers to the issue that you are facing.  The short answer to your question is:  Yes.

Hope this helps and hope you find your phone soon.

HI @haroldschaefer

Once you have the new SIM card ,  you can login to My Account and Click Change SIM Card and follow the steps.

Here are more information for the process

Of course. You just have to perform a sim swap in your account. You should log in and suspend your service via lost/stolen until you purchase a new unactivated sim card. Then you can resume your service via lost/stolen and swap your sim using your email for the 2FA.
