Lost number.

When you sign up you are given a number. When your transfer a number in, there is no indication of what happens to the original number, or that it will be removed. How do I get that number AND the number that was transferred in?

I need that number to change my phone number on websites in the very least (2Fa etc).

I would suggest that complete the porting of your old number and download TextNow and pick a second number.

if you have a "new" number when you signed out with PM, then request porting another number into your current PM acocunt, that "new" number would be gone.  There is no way to keep both numbers.  

if you need to keep the "new" number with your PM account, don't touch that account

for another number to you need to port in, you will then need another PM account

But if you just need that "new" number to sort out 2FA, make change to those website to email or another number first (why not change to that number you are going to port into PM first?  or if not possible for any reason, change to a friend's number) or change to Authenticator app or email.  You will request porting (which means giving up that "new" number) only after you sorted out all the 2FA
