But, not dialing 1 doesn't for a long distance call doesn't actually cause the outgoing call to fail. The only thing that happens (as least the only thing that is supposed to happen) is that the customer hears a reminder that the call is long distance and that "long distance charges may apply". When a customer gets that message (in the Telus automated operator voice), the call proceeds after a few seconds.
The message that "you do not have a long distance add-on" is different and causes the call to fail and disconnect. This is because Public Mobile somehow think thats the phone number that you are calling is in a different province.
@jabone I know that this problem is because of an error on the Public Mobile end, but I have a feeling that swtiching to Canada-wide calling plan might correct this. I know that you shouldn't have to do that, but it's an option.
Either way, talk to the moderators have them fix up your account.

I have the same experience as @ShawnC13.
if I’m in my city in Southern Ontario, and call my parents a 55 minute drive away in my childhood home, it’s a landline long distance call.
If I’m standing in their driveway, it’s local.
I have their numbers setup in my contact list with +1 before their numbers, to eliminate the message.

Did you dial the number with 1 in front of the 250? If it would be a long distance call via a landline you will always need to add the 1 but it won't and can't charge you for long distance. I have a 250 in Victoria and call the mainland with 604 with no problem as long as I have the 1
Exactly, either dial 1 or ignore the message and wait for the call to be connected.
This could be the problem but likely not. Back in the day when I started with this service, I ran into the account problem. A reset was don'on the account and I have never experienced the problem again. I usually don't dial 1 first.
I have to dial 1 even if I go up island. I have found any number that would be LD for my landline I need the 1 in front of the number
Strange that we have differing experiences. I tried calling GTA area codes different than my number just now. I just typed the 10 digits only and it worked.
