Is there a way to require a login or verification before a purchase is authorized?

your son needs to have a login to My Account or Public Mobile app to do that
if he forgot the email used, click Forgot Username on the My account login page.
or if he needs PM agent to help, you can submit ticket by direct message:

The above doesn't answer the customer's question. There's no such thing as needing to log into approve these data purchases.

After removing the credit card form the Public Mobile account, all future payments will need to be made using Public Mobile vouchers. There isn't any way to specifically block data add-on purchases done through text messsaging.

Public Mobile does sent an SMS to the phone when data is finished or near to finish. A simple option of pressing 1 or 2 on the phone is all is needed to make the purchase.
I'm not sure if an email or confirmation is sent after to confirm the purchase. If it's another SMS, then that can be easily deleted by the holder of the phone.
What you can do is to ask an agent by submitting a ticket and ask them remove the cc from file to prevent this from being approved in the future.

I recall to reply with STOP on the text to stop any future text but I don’t know if this will work on low data text.

The issue is that he was able to simply reply yes to add 1gb, which costs $15 each time. And I did not get an email, message or anything to authorize this purchase. He did not login or enter a password. So I want to see a verification prior to any purchase.

Fair point.
I have an account for my son, and I want there to be a password or verification if he tries to purchase extra data on his phone via text, for example…
