Local call area

Can I change local call area for existing number. Callers get a " this number is long distance".

if you need to change phone number, login My Account -> Profile, click pencil besides your phone number there and you can change to another number with another area code.    But you will get charge a different provincial tax, and possibly E-911 fees based on the area code of the new number you choose

As you've stated in your post, people who are calling YOU are getting "this number is long distance", not you calling other people. 

There really is no way to just change the area code itself. You can however go into your account and get a different number if you wish. You're permitted to do that up to 4 times a month until you find a number you like. Once a week basically.

all current plans have Canada wide calling, ie, calling anywhere in Canada is a "local" call, no long distance.

Try reboot your phone and call again
