Just signed up for a plan, Planning to transfer my phone number but want to select activation date?

Hi there,

I just signed up for a Canada day offer plan. It wen through however I wanted to transfer my current phone number.

I was under the impression that we could select the activation date? I went to the very last step of transferring my phone number of the PM app but it still did not ask me to select a date.

My credit card was already charged but I won't want to pay twice for the same month. My current service's plan just started and will end on the 26th July so I was hoping I could activate it on 26th itself during the activation.

What are my options now?

Will it still ask me at the very very end to select an activation date or I could just do the activation step on the 26th July itself? I selected the E-SIM option for my PM account btw and my current provider has a physical SIM. I have used the other E-SIM slot for sign up as my cell supports one physical and one E-SIM.

Please help! Thank you.

hi @NickDJ just pause at this stage

come back in July 20th and complete the step

remember your Fido account needs to be active for port.  After you requested port, Fido will send you a text and you need to reply YES to approve the port

just in case you have problems completing the activation, ask PM support agent to help.  you can submit by direct message:        https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/22437

Support will reply via Community inbox here within 2 to 4 hours:

I signed up for the plan on the PM website, it asked me to enter my CC details and it charged the plan amount o my cell phone.

Then it asked me to download the PM app which I did and I stopped on step 5 of 6 and did not go through with it. I selected e-SIM option so there is no shipping of physical SIM step in this.

So if I understand this correctly, if I don't do this PM app 6 steps then the plan won't activate? I should try this on say July 20th and I should be fine? My CC was already charged so checking.

hi @NickDJ at which step you are at?? if you have eSIM and got to Step 6 already, you have activated the account already

if you are still at step 5, you can stop there and come back to complete a bit late, but you might need PM support to help at that time

and don't wait till July 26th to complete, try to complete around July 20th, you need some buffer time

hi @NickDJ sorry clicked wrong before I complete typing.  Check my  post above again

Ok, so long as you didnt scan or input the eSIM number through the QR code you should be fine.

I belive Fido is postpaid no? If so, they usually pro-rate the fees. Public Mobile does not pro rate.

How does that work? If I went through the activation steps it was saying that it will send the text message and was talking about porting now. Where and when will it ask for Activation date? on the app itself? and no chance of it actually porting my number right away accidently  since it is an eSIM?

hi @NickDJ actually you can activate now a d choose the activation date for later

when you activate, choose physical sim card, and ask for them to ship.  The activation will go as far as payment and then it will pause.  I will pause there because PM will ship you the sim card and you only complete the activation after you receive the sim card., or you can even hold on a bit longer.  After you got the sim, download PM App and complete the activation and that would be day 1 of the cycle

in case PM ships you the s8m card really late (1 to 3 weeks) and you don't want to wait longer for the sim card, then buy another PM sim card from Telus or Koodo store and you can then complete the activation

I went for the E-SIM but did not complete all the steps for activation as I was unable to select the activation date which I was under the impression it would ask at some point.
I am moving from FIDO(physical SIM) to PM(E-SIM) but don't want to port until July 26 to avoid double paying for the same billing cycle.

The activation date is when you activate the SIM card. So if you choose eSIM,  it will be now if you download and follow steps. The Physical SIM is when it arrives and you follow the steps to activate.

And you you should port 1-2 days prior to ending of current plan, not day of incase of errors and delays.
