Is WCDMA 3g? If my plan includes 3G should I be on WCDMA only or GSM only? Thanks!

Yes, WCDMA is the FDD version of UMTS (the most popular 3G technology in the world). UMTS shares the same core network as GSM, but it's a different technology. You should set your phone to Auto. If you absolutely want to force it, go with WCDMA or WCDMA/LTE. Forcing it to GSM only will result in no service.
The TDD version of UMTS is TD-SCDMA. It's used by China Mobile.
The other, competing technology is CDMA Ev-DO.

Although the term 3g has been used in the past to mean different things, 3g and WCDMA are now pretty much used interchangeably. Do not set your phone to GSM only or you service won't work.
