Store aren't there to provide technical assistance. They are there only to sell sim cards and top ups, and to activate services.

What are your circumstances for asking for this code? New customer? Which model phone? More details may be helpful.

A PIN and PUK aren't the same and are not interchangeable.
Also, what is the exact message being displayed on your phone's screen. Often, customers beleive that they need the sim card's PUK, but much of the time, they end up needing something called a SIM Network Unlock PUK, something which Public Mobile cannot provide you with unless it's a device that is locked to Telus.
