I am currently in China and have just realized that public mobile don’t provide services in China.I have put my subscription on hold and I will have to transfer my number to fizz. How can I do this now since I cannot receive any messages?

@Addison0621 My bank doesn't rely solely on SMS for 2FA. If I (or anyone else) try to access to my bank account from any device other than my phone, a request is sent to my phone that has the banking app on it. I need to authorize the request through the app after unlocking my phone. If I select "didn't receive notification", I am given the options in the pic below. 3 of the 4 choices can be done without phone service (data only)

@Addison0621 I just checked FIZZ and they do offer wifi calling so if you can manage to get your number ported to them you should be able to use the service in China on wifi.
Edit: I fell for AI generated reply. Further digging seems to be no wifi calling yet.

@Addison0621 I looked at Fizz's website and came to the same conclusion as @Dunkman , it looks like they only have calling and texting in the USA for roaming, not for China where it is only offering data.

Just make sure that Fizz will allow you to receive 2FA texts to login to bank accounts while roaming in China. If Fizz just offers data, you will not be able to receive the 2FA bank texts. So, with Fizz, you may not be able to login to your bank. You may need to go to a higher tier company like Telus or Rogers for that option. Again, much easier to accomplish in Canada.

@Addison0621 If as @Dunkman said regarding FIZZ only having data in China, why not just get a local sim or a travel sim (data only)?

You will have to wait until you return to Canada. You will need to purchase a local SIM min China for service in China.

It may be difficult to accomplish this. You may want to also contact Fizz to make sure that Fizz will allow an activation out of Canada. Also, make sure that Fizz offers text and talk while roaming in China. I had a brief look and it looks like that it just offers Data.
Since your account is inactive and unable to receive the port request text, you will need to contact CSA to possibly manually release your number. It might not be possible though.

Well first you need your plan to be active as you can't port out unless it is. The only way it might work is to contact PM and see if they can help. As you won't be able to get the text and response to it in China.
