@HenryD9 - if your current SIM is functional, and the old and new phone has the same Size SIM Slot, it is easy peasy to take out from old phone and insert new phone.
But if the SIM holder is a different size, then SIMs come in a 3-in-1 size, so either remove the outer adapters to fit, or since you are obtain a new SIM anyhow you can use the outer adapters if needed to add around your current SIM.
If you current SIM does not work, than you can perform a SIM-SWAP to move your number and account to a new SIM, see "How To Change Your SIM Card"

HI @HenryD9 I understand your situation. You don't have to do anything with the new SIM yet. Once you have the new phone, try it with the old SIM first.
If it does not work, then you can try using the new SIM. But you need to do something first. Login My Account and click Change SIM card. You will be asked to use either the email or SIM to get a 2FA code to complete the process. I think you should pick email in that case if the old SIM no longer works

Put your PM SIM into new phone and no need to do any changes in the account.
If your account was suspended then just pay for the plan and re-activate it in self serve and you should be good to go.

HI @HenryD9 You just need to take the SIM out from the old phone, put it into the new phone (as long as the SIM fit, if not and if the SIM is too big, check if it is pre-cut and can break it to make it smaller)
You should be all good then with the old SIM in the new phone. This is the convivence of SIM card.

PM service is tied up with your PM SIM. As long as SIM is active and working just take it from the old phone and plug it in into new one.
If your SIM is not working properly and you still have service with PM then you will have to replace SIM.
