Having trouble porting number from Virign Mobile

Hi. I bought and activated a PM sim card about a week ago, and want to port my Virgin Mobile number over. When I typed it into the "Check to see if your phone number is eligible" box, it said:
"We were unable to transfer the phone number you entered. Try one of the following options:
- Make sure you entered your number correctly.
- Select a new number.
- Contact the Public Mobile Community for further assistance."
The number was right. Is it possible I just can't port it over? Any help with porting it over is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

@nesci, is your Virgin Mobile account active? If the account is in a suspended state then porting is not possible.
