I currently have the iPhone 5s, and seeing the iPhones, I've decided to switch back to android. Been looking at the essential phone and the S8, but not sure which one to get. I really like the design of the essential, but its a first generation product from a new company. The S8 has a bunch of extra features but it seems very fragile and samsung phones has a reputation of slowing down over time.
What do you guys think?

Hmmm... I'm still thinking about the ZTE Axon 7, when I'm ready to replace my Nexus 5.

Yeah exactly! I heard the battery life on the essential phone is very good, but what do you think?

are you sure you want to be spending that much on a phone

So screen size and battery life are important don't want to run out of battery during economics 101 😀

What do you use your phone for other than calling 🙂
Based on those factors I would make my decision.
I personally (don't know much about them) would not spend the money on either. I would rather get last years model of something and save my money. I just bought a moto z play(used) for $260, and could not be happier, loving the long battery life. Just need to find the speaker mod before I head for vacation.
In the end it's up to you on which device makes you happiest.

I'd also go with the essential phone. Samsung has way too much bloat ware on their phones ( 1 samsung app for every google app), they are painfully slow with updates. However a big plus with the s8 is the water resistance. Wireless charging is nothing too speical, because its slower charging compared to the quick charge.
The essential phone has "stock android", so updates should happen quickly, probably shortly after google, made from the creator of android, and is all around nice looking with the edge to edge display
But both are expensive phones

Both are out of my price range, but if I had to choose, I would go for the new guy on the block. I have never really been a Samsung fan.
