Hi,

What are the documents required for getting a new SIM?

I have helped a friend sign up successfully with this prepaid Vanilla Mastercard in late 2022:

One other note to keep in mind as you are settling into life here:

While prepaid cell phone providers like Public Mobile (and its direct competitors Lucky and ChatR, as well as SpeakOut 7-11) give you an easy head start to get connected because they don't ask for your verifiable real name, address or credit history, on the flip side a prepaid cell phone account will NOT be accepted if you need a "utility bill" to prove your residential address etc down the line.

Welcome to Canada!

@raghavneon

Yes you need a Canadian or American CC or debit card and a Canadian address to active a SIM.

If you don’t have a CC, there is a long way around by purchasing a voucher and contact a CS_Agent to help you setup an account.

You can also purchase a reloadable CC from any supermarket or gas station like these:

If you are looking for a new SIM, try purchasing one online from Canadian Cell Supplies for $5 with fast shipping.

@raghavneon   As everyone told you , there is no identity proof required for setting up an account with Public Mobile as this is a prepaid provider

For buying sim card, best to buy the PM sim card from local Telus/Koodo store or via Amazon.ca.  Please be aware if you are ordering the sim card from PM online, the delivery time could be anywhere from 5 days to 3 weeks. So, if you don't want the wait, better to get it locally in person.

@raghavneon - this is a prepaid service, so all you need is to obtain a new SIM card and pay for a 30 day plan, and voila you have services for 30 days, until you pay for the next cycle and so on.

You activate a SIM card here: https://publicmobile.ca/en/on/portal/activation

To activate a SIM Card :

"we accept credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) and Visa Debit cards that have been issued by Canadian or American financial institutions and are associated with addresses in Canada or the U.S. Please note that by updating your payment information, you will automatically be registered for pre-authorized payments and your payment method will be saved on file for making future payments easier for you. You will only be able to update your payment method through My Account. Please reach out to a customer support agent if you wish to remove your payment method from your account. "

There are also vouchers you can purchase for tops ups, but you cannot use them to activate a SIM card.

you just need to pay for a Sim card with a Canadian credit card or a Visa MasterCard debit or American Express. Then you go on the activation portal and activate the account. You don’t need to prove you live anywhere and anyone in the world can attain a public mobile account.

To order a SIM card, Paypal can be used for payment. Paypal doesn't have the Canadian/U.S. credit card restriction.

There are no documents required to open an account.  For credit cards, only Canadian an Americans ones are acceptd, but if you don't have one, a prepaid card can be used to open your Public Mobile account.  Otherwiise, you can use Public Mobile top up vouchers to pay, but that would require Public Mobile customer service to open the account for you.

You don’t need to prove you live anywhere and anyone in the world can attain a public mobile account.

You can put whatever address you want on the activation portal as it doesn’t impact anything with the service. The phone number you choose will determine what your local calling area is.

if you are newly activating, make sure you get a referral code from an existing customer to help save you and them a little bit of money.

Maybe ask a friend or relative with this service to supply you with one.

You do not need to prove your identify to purchase a replecement SIM card. You only need to log in to your Self Serve account to change to it.  If you're trying to become a new customer, your identity isn't checked.
