Data usage warnings 75% data used text message

last month my data seemed to get used up fairly quickly. i dont use more than my monthly allowance ever, some months comming within a gig or so but never fully used. I get a 75% warning which is nice. Today i topped up my account and my data was refreshed. within 12 hours i had used 75% of my data without knowing it. I cant even account for how it happened because i wasnt even using my phone for anything other than GPS and a radio stream which i listen to over data everday for months with very little data being used. maybe 200-300mb a day on average because i keep track.

My only request to public mobile. Give a warning earlier than 75% of data used because that doesnt help users when something like what happened to me occurs. im forced to go the rest of my month now with 1gb of data left, and no support options are available for my problem. im considering leaving public mobile after this. ill pay more for better service if this keeps happening.

@Dnomad Do you have an iPhone? If so, be sure WiFi Assist is OFF, otherwise cellular data may be used even if your are on wifi.

What phone are you using?

As mentioned I stall one of the data apps and they can actually show you what process used the data.

Not sure what carrier gives you warning earlier.  75 and 90 seem pretty standard.  Other carriers charge 70  -90$ / gig of extra data. At least with pm if you run out just ask mods to renew earlier.

after my data refresh which was today, i went to work like i have done every day for months and used my phone for gps and the audio stream which is a internet radio stream. i have used this method of listening for years over many carriers and just today over the course of streaming for about 5 hours i got 5gb of data used. this is not normal and i checked the stream after the fact and it was using the normal amount of data, only a 50-100mb per hour. my concern was that over 12 hours i was not notified at all that this much data was used, on top of it being day 1 of my billing cycle. upset i will have to just repay my bill because no other options will give me the same amount of data. this month cost me 100$ instead of 50$.

@Dnomad

Also to follow up on my post here is a sticky post by Public Mobile about different methods to adjust your data usage and tracking.

You mentioned you were keeping track and are seeing 200-300MB per day get used when you stream. What did your usage appear to be at over this same period that you're concerned about? Although the accuracy is reasonably close, the meter on your phone isn't always accurate, so the best thing is to check online under your account info to determine your real usage.

I actually have the opposite feelings about warnings, reminders, and notices from Public Mobile. I wish they'd send me less.  But that's just my preference.

I would set your phone up to provide warnings for you. Many smartphones can be set to give you notification after a preset amount of data has been used.  They can also be set up with a limit so that the data turns off if you pass a specified amount.

I hear your frustration @Dnomad

I had a similar occurence last month when I was travelling. I assumed either I had an update which started at home when on Wifi and it continued when I switched to Public Mobile Data.

The other thing it could have been was when another family member was connected to my phone via hotspot. I assume they just see it as wifi so it doesn't have all the restrictions like when data is turned on.

Depending on the type of phone you have, iOS or Android, there are data tracking apps like Data Manager or Data Witness just to name a few which you can set the warning level to be at a much lower level so you could avoid running up your data usage to 75% before getting a warning.
