Data turned off, still receiving texts internationally?

Hi,

I'm travelling in Mexico right now, and so I've got my data turned off and paused my subscription (it will expire in the first week of Jan), I'll then resubscribe once I'm back in Canada.

Despite my data turned off, I am getting text messages! I don't know if this is because my phone's recent update introduced RCS messaging (Wifi messaging), which is new to me. I also just took a closer look at my plan and I see it says I have "unlimited international text and picture messaging", which I haven't had before (recently upgraded my plan). I just want to make sure I am not somehow secretly paying roaming charges!! I guess my service will cut out once my monthly plan expires anyways.

I also got a voicemail today. I'm not going to check it because I don't want to incur any calling costs, but wasn't sure how I even got the voicemail message!

Thanks!

Your good so check your voicemail!! Public Mobile won't charge you for any extras.  The service is not supposed to work, but if it does, there no charges.

The unlimited texting and calling references when you use the service in Canada only.

Your lucky,  use it while it works, but yes it could be RCS while connected to wifi.

no worry, you won't get any charges.  PM is prepaid and you won't be force to pay without knowing

the messages you got is likely RCS, you can send RCS as well with Wifi if you had it setup

but yes, some people mentioned you will still get traditional SMS without roaming. But with you suspended the plan, i doubt you will get traditional SMS. (So, you likely is getting RCS)

Hello @Ella_w

Public Mobile is prepaid so you won't be charged anything extra. If you are on WiFi, you may get messages and be able to send messages. You just won't be able to make or take calls. Enjoy your trip.
