I switched my parents to Public Mobile. My Dad has an old phone (Samsung S5) and he loves it because the battery is removable. However, his data is NOT working. It's not an issue with Public Mobile, because when we take his sim card out and put it into my Mom's phone the data works fine. His data worked fine with his previous sim card (Virgin Mobile). Could it be that his Samsung S5 doesn't support the bands required on public mobile? When he goes into his connections he sees the following. I've tried everything to help him (I am in a different city) and gone through many youtube videos. I don't get it. All I can think of is that his phone is just too old?? Anyone have any advice? Thank you!

The Samsung S5 shouldn’t be an issue on PM.

Maybe bring his phone to a Samsung store or a Mobile repair shop to check it out.

@gillybean1 Public Mobile has a help page for APN settings here
https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-help/articles/after-subscribing
It gives a link to a web page where you can check what it should be for a specific phone on Public Mobile. The S5 is listed there.

There's no complete list. A Samsung Galaxy S5 from Virgin Mobile Canada will be compatible with the HSPA and LTE netowrks from Bell, which is also shared by Telus. Once unlocked, the device is compatible with with Public Mobile, although there are many apps that won't work on older versions of Anroid (including the Public Mobile account app).

That not entirely true. There are a handful of new phones that have removable batteries like Galaxy XCover7 and I believe European union is forcing cellphone companies to bring them back by 2027

The Samsung Galaxy S5 isn't too old. There are actually much older devices that will work at Public Mobile.

Yes, this device will abosolutely work at Public Mobile. The APN settings may need to be manually changed and the device will need to be unlocked, but it will work at Public Mobile. While this device won't be able to do use VoLTE at Public Mobile, that isn't currently a compatibility requirement.

Sadly @gillybean1 his phone is older than needed for PM usage. Time to upgrade his phone. I understand he likes the removable battery but... companies no longer like doing that. Might want to help upgrade him to a more affordable phone. Either a cheaper iPhone or a Motorola.

Sorry, he sees the following:
LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), WCDMA only and GSM only
