Data Discrepancies

Hi,

for the last couple of billing periods, i have been noticing a huge discrepancy in my data usage as stated on my bill vs. what I actually use. Last month, the text came almost a week before the end of cycle, claiming I had used nearly all of my data (80gb at the time, which I promptly switched to an even bigger data subscription (more expensive as well, but only another $5 for 150gb), although thinking it odd as I rarely use even 20gb as a general rule, and not having time to look into it until later. When I did investigate my data usage, which is clearly stated in the app, it shows that my data usage has incurred less than 23gb in the last 60 days. Total. Not 80gb plus the 75gb claimed on this month’s cycle. So 155gb claimed, but 23gb actual on the bill.
what could this huge discrepancy be? Should I be concerned there is something weird going on behind the scenes on my iPhone ? Or is PM just extremely bad at math or hiding my actual data usage from me? Is there a way to request more detailed logs? I am considering changing providers, not just because of this issue, but would like to know before I make my decision. Thanks in advance for any advice/help on this subject. It’s a real head-scratcher for me.

Well, thanks for the information, but this discrepancy is strange and I know I didn’t use that much data anyway, as I don’t even stream movies/shows or watch YouTube on my iPhone (usually only on wifi). My usual usage is well under 20gb every billing cycle, which doesn’t not explain this massive jump with no change in my iPhone usage habits. So there is an issue here; I just wish I could better understand what would all of a sudden be causing it as it seems suspicious and I like to know logical outcomes when it comes to these sorts of things. Thanks for your advice. I will keep looking into it until I figure it out.

Public mobile data usage tracker is usually accurate. As mentioned, data usage in the self service account is recorded only once-twice per day (usually early in the morning).  On the iPhone, you can check which app is consuming more data usage.

I always check on the PM app and I swipe down on the screen to refresh the data usage. I also check Usage Breakdown-View Usage History and filter to Data.

Also PM updates your usage twice a day. Around noon and around midnight so the data usage is not current. If there is a big differences then contact a CS_Agent to review.

PM is on a 30 days cycle and not monthly which data counter app uses so there are some differences.
