Hey all,
Just want to know if anyone else is experiencing this. I just had a couple trips up to Sault from the GTA and noticed that I had no reception between towns, such as around Spanish and Espinola and even just out of North Bay and Sudbury. I just checked the coverage map, and apparently I should've been good to go up there. I'd appreciate if someone could let me know if they have a similar experience, as I was planning to move my dad over to Public Mobile, but have to reconsider if signal is spotty in those areas.

Thanks for that, looks like some mod got that for me. Well as far as I can tell, my phone is set to auto, the slot I have PM under should allow it to swap between 4g, 3g, and 2g as necessary, with my second sim at 2g or below. So having ruled out my phones settings for the most part, has anyone in the area ever experienced this? My Dad's phone is on the bell network and he seems fine for the most part, only mine appeared to drop out. I'm really only asking because according to the coverage map I should have been absolutely fine. And one thing I do want when I'm up North is signal, as from experience you never know when you're going to hit a moose.

Up in northern Ontario coverage is very challenging to say the least. I find that Rogers/Tbaytel offer the best coverage. Bellus becomes iffy outside the larger centers.

However, its been working perfectly fine for the past few months here(GTA) and in the US. In regards to the slot, both slots are the same, and connection type is software defined. I definitely had it set to 4G, because PM doesn't have any fallback frequencies and it doesn't work otherwise. In case it did decide to change on its own, likely not possible as in towns I had signal and could send/recieve texts. My other sim card was getting Edge signal at the time.
Given that this is a public forum, I would recommend that you edit your post to remove your IMEIs so that they aren't available to anyone who read this.

It seems you have the Huawei Honor 5X KIW-L21 (Europe version) if https://willmyphonework.net/ is correct
GSM: | 850 900 1800 1900 |
HSDPA: | 850 900 1900 2100 HSPA+ |
LTE: | LTE-FDD: 850, 1700/2100, 1800, 1900, 2100, 2600 LTE-TDD: 1900, 2300, 2500, 2600 |
Do you have the network set to auto?
Public Mobile utilizes the following frequency bands: 4G LTE and LTE Advanced
700 MHz, 850 MHz, 1900 MHz and 2100 MHz downlink and 1700 MHz uplink (AWS)
HSPA
850 MHz
1900 MHz (UMTS)

Have you tried choosing the auto frequency feature or LTE/3G/2G so that the phone can fall back to Telus' 3G network as necessary? (Public Mobile would also need 3G for calls since it doesn't support VoLTE.)

That's odd then. I was always under the impression that Telus/Bell was superior in terms of coverage outside big cities and Rogers is king inside big cities.

This is a dual sim phone? Maybe double check which SIM slot your PM SIM is in because if I'm not mistaken dual sim phones may have different frequency supports depending on the SIM slot. You may be using the crappier slot?

There are 9 different versions of the Honor 5X.. You will need to be more specific. What is your IMEI? If you don't know how to get your IMEI dial *#06#
Rogers and public mobile (telus) are totally different towers and different frequencies.
Very general statement that is partially wrong: Different towers: yes, different frequencies: totally depends.
They use the same 3G and partially the same LTE frequencies - otherwise you couldn't use a Rogers supplied smart phone on Telus and vice versa or an unlocked one with "North American frequencies" for both.
However, for another year or so Rogers is still supporting 2G technology, a fall back that the Telus/Bell network doesn't have.

What kind of phone do you have? Often when you have service issues in different areas where there should be service its because those towers only do certain frequencies and some phones seem like the work perfect but its only in certain places / usually populated normal areas and service is depending on the nearby towers compatibility with your phone
