Changing plan

Yunxin

I am currently with public mobile under 35$/ month, and I want to switch to a new plan 29$/ month. I just purchased the plan. Do I need to purchase a new SIM card for the new plan? If I do, how do I unsubscribe the old plan and old SIM card? It will be automatically unsubscribed? Would I be able to keep my current phone number?

@Yunxin

Public mobile does not make it easy to downgrade plans for existing customers these days.  Personalized plan offers for existing customers and the offered plans are usually more expensive than their present plans.

If you are on the $35 plan, you are unlikely to be offered the $29 plan.  If you really want the $29 plan, if you don't care about your present number, you can activate a new plan with a new phone number and new SIM card.  Need a different email address as login.  Unsubscribed from $35 plan and let it go dormant.

If you want to keep your present number, you can port your present phone number/account to another company (ie. Lucky or Freedom).  Get a new PM SIM card and port back in.

Customer service agents are unlikely going to help manually downgrade your $35 plan to $29 plan.

@Yunxin  Just log in to your account, go to "change subscription" and if you see the $29 plan there then select it.  You'll be given two options, "change now" or "change on renewal".  Unless you really need to switch immediately, select "change on renewal".  If you do "change now" you will be charged the full $29 immediately and lose the rest of your $35 with no refund for the unused portion.  You do not need a new sim card and it will keep your current phone number.  You may not see the $29 plan offered though since it is lower priced than your current one.
