Changing phone number

southernfarm

I currently have a ported phone number.  If I change it to a PM generated number, Can I change it back to my ported number or is my ported number then lost for good.  Alternatively I could always port my number to a Bell sim temporarily then back to PM.

If your scenario is to take advantage of a promotion and your current account with the ported number does not have a significant balance (if any), rewards (autopay only?) or promos/freebies (5gb promo data, "more the merrier" gifts etc...) and is currently active and you already have a bell sim card you could.......

  1.  Activate the bell sim with their cheapest postpaid plan and port your number to your new bell account. Your pm account will then close and your sim card will deactivate.
  2. Register a new email for public mobile's second 30 days free promotion.
  3. Go to CCS online. Order the $50 plan at 50% off ($25+tax) and wait for the free sim card to arrive in the mail in about 5 business days. Once it arrives follow the procedure to activate and choose a temporary number.
  4. Once your pm services are up and running log into your new pm account and initiate the porting process from bell. Leave the bell sim in your phone to recieve the porting authorization text and reply YES to it. Your phone number will be ported back to pm.
  5. Your bell account will automatically close and bell will prorate your bill. You will either have to pay or you may have a refund if you paid ahead of time for your postpaid account.
  6. Preferably after you recieve your 30 day credit but before your first renewal schedule a plan change to your preferred plan. Enjoy your 8.5gb of data for the first 30 days of service.
  7. Be sure to use a referral code to also recieve the $10 bonus referral credit and pass the $1 referral reward onto someone who has helped you.

If you do stack these two promotions and change to the $15 plan on your first renewal your first 6 months (180 days) of pm service will cost about $30 or $5 per month.

Why would you be looking to do this?

Some context around this change might assist in an applicable reply.

EDIT: looking at your other recent posts, @southernfarm , I see that you responded to a prior thread on frequent spam calls

Here's my advice if you are being burdened by spam callers:

NEVER answer any calls from numbers/people you either don't recognize or are not on your contact list.  If the person calling you needs you bad enough, they will leave a voice message, if they don't bother leaving one, you likely didn't need to hear from them.

IF YOU DO ANSWER, and the caller is a spammer, it's likely your number will get logged as one which will get answered, so anticipate spam calling to increase (at least in the short term).

1. Lost for good unless you go back to the original provider and hope to pick it up from them.

2. You can always port out and back.

I'm guessing you're wanting to make use the promo. Would it be worth it? Paying for a SIM at the other provider, paying for a plan, paying for another SIM here.

@southernfarm , once you use the Change your number option, it is very unlikely you could get it back on demand. It goes back to phone number pool. So if you like your number I would not suggest changing it.

FYI - you can change your Public Mobile number every 30 days if you wish through your self serve account, free of charge.

Yes, could port out, then back in. But as soon as you port your PM number out you lose any Available Funds, rewards, loyalty you may have with PM. And your Public Mobile account is automatically closed.

*If you came back to Public Mobile you would need to obtain a NEW Public Mobile SIM to activate or port over again.
