Changed the plan on Day 1, another charge for the full month appeared - normal?

A pretty short story: bought a SIM card for my mother-in-law, $20/month calls only plan, came home, realized she needed text messages to move Whatsapp etc. accounts, so went online and changed the plan to $25/month calls and text messages.

On my credit card, in the pending (currently) transactions, there are $20+HST charge and $25+HST charge. Is that normal?

I was expecting to see only $5+HST extra, not the whole new $25+HST.

Thanks!

Understood thank you, I like the point re guaranteed charge.

Will ask the moderators, if not, I'll live;-).

I am pretty optimistic that they will credit the  you the first plan and put it in Available funds for your next renewal.  Did you sign up for autopay to  save $2 per month?  Another great feature.

Thanks, there was such option, but I couldn't wait a month to start using text messages.

Strange though, why isn't current "credit" counted towards the new plan?

I.e. $20-->$25 = +$5, no?

You paid the $20 for the 30 day plan and PM agreed to provide what you asked for for that time period.  That is the "contract".  You realized you need more  features so you needed to pick a new plan for 30 days so that would be a new contract at $25.  There are no refunds at PM with it being prepaid so it wasn't like you could return your $20 plan and use that as a credit towards your new plan

Yes it's one way to look at it. Didn't realize simply charging the increment was a very complicated matter. Didn't need a refund.

That is the way pre-paid goes.  The great thing about pre-paid you will never be charged overages!!

No data invloved.

Alas. It doesn't work that way here. Ask the mods nicely 🙂 they're not obliged.

Yes as a prepaid service when you do an immediate plan change you pay the full price of the new plan without any credit or prorating from your first plan.  As this was on your first day you can message mods to credit you the original $20 from your first plan but this would be on them showing some goodwill to the customer and they are not required to do it, but I beleive they would.  Unfortunately response time from teh moderators is 48-72 hours currently.

 @NorthGraves: Yeah it's a funny assumption. Maybe pro-rated daily as you get through your plan. But then there are the consumption parts like data where... what?... you have to calculate the pro-rate based on how much you've used? It can all get very messy very fast.

So yeah...here it's just "so you want a different plan NOW... alrighty then there you go". You would have seen the option for future dating the change but you had an assumption that it would all be somehow pro-rated. Alas.

@NorthGraves

Unfortunately, as stated above, you will be charged twice.

However, since you are a new customer and it is within 1-2 days of plan change, you might want to try to explain your situation to one of the moderators and they might be understanding and possibly credit your account.  No guarantees, but expect about 48 hours wait.

Yeah Sadly, if you change the plan, you are charged immediately for the new plan and lose all the money on your existing plan, if you selected immediate effect. 😞

There should have been an option to only take effect after your current plan, and, in that case, you won't lose any money!
