Hi
So is this a contract plan or can I cancel at anytime without penalty. I ask because I have a friend who bought this for there son. He took a class trip to LA and communication both talk and text failed to work. Text saw only 10% go though and phone kept giving them a recording saying it can't connect.
Also, Thanks for all the quick replies. The people that answer my questions. Are the PM reps or general user in a community form?
Thanks
Chris

Public Mobile only has prepaid plans so there is no penalty to leave. And never extra charges for roaming. If you use your total data bucket, your data stops working so you don’t have to worry about being charged for expensive overage fees.
For this plan to work in the US, there are a few steps to follow:

@Chrisrobertson Basically Public Mobile has 30 day (and sometimes 90 day) "subscriptions" but the same plan renews at the same rate for as long as you want it. If you don't have automatic payments and don't pay at the end of 30 days the plan will suspend for 90 days after which if no payment it will close. So basically at the end of each 30 days (or 90 days) it's your choice whether to continue or not, there's no penalty if you don't. The only "penalty" is if you port out the number to another carrier part way through the cycle in which case there is no refund.
There can be problems with voice calls in the USA because there is no longer any 3G service there. This means that a phone that can't do VoLTE (Voice over LTE) will not work for voice calls. Data and texts should still work. In some areas it is possible for a non-VoLTE phone to connect to a remaining 2G network on T-Mobile but it's spotty.
There has been a problem recently for new customers with text messages which is now supposedly resolved but I think it just didn't work at all which doesn't sound like their problem. Public Mobile's roaming partners in the USA are T-Mobile and AT&T. Some phones try to connect to Verizon but that won't work. Also 5G can be problematic so best to select 4G/LTE in settings. If anyone has issues with US roaming best to come here and ask for suggestions, we can usually get it working and if not can refer people to customer service.
