Whenever it says 4g in the top right corner my phone becomes useless  nothing works

4G or 5G it would seem that nothing works if you’re in an area with poor reception. Happens to me regularly and we just have to accept it. 
ALSO set your data settings to LTE  (4G) and see if reception improves.

Your screenshot is showing 5G not 4G.  Did you mean to say 5G?  If so, I think from the symbols on your phone that you have battery saver turned on?  I believe that would disable 5G although I'm not sure why it wouldn't switch down to 4G/LTE automatically in that case.

@BCBudGirl69 it could be problem with the network bands your phone has.  What phone do you have?? which city and province you are at??
