@slusagm thank you for the advice, guess it's back to the research (again!)

@Sweetz

Pixel is as good as Samsung.

Honest, the approved list is short, you don't have many choices.  Get the Samsung A16 or Pixel 8a/9a/10a

You might choose the older model for smaller screen, but for software update and security updates, you should get the newer model for longer support

haven't heard the greatest reviews on the Pixel, i have been always using Samsung as my go to, from the S8 to the A70 (Original A70 - not the other versions)

Thank you for all the suggestions, guess it back to doing loads and loads and loads of research again! *sigh*

yes i loved the 3.5mm as i am an old school user and i cannot stand the new gadgets in the ears. Kijiji is not a safe way to go here in Newfoundland, Ontario perhaps but not here.

i am going to have to do some research or wait until the back to school or boxing day sales as phones, and the pricing now a days match what they once cost back in 1980. 🤣😂

if you are willing to get a bigger screen, and willing to use an adapter for 3.5mm ($2 from Dollarama) , why not get a Google Pixel 8a?  It's only 6.1 inches screen.  Honest, it is decent size, not as small as you want, but you don't have many choices these days

yes i was able to finally find a way to create a ticket, not as easy as it use to be. Shows you how many times I had to contact customer service, lol

Okay I found a phone which still has the 3.5mm it's a bigger phone but it has the jack, how can I test to see that it's compatible, I don't have the IMEI, it's a Motorola Moto G06.

Thank you all for the assist atm, getting this message kinda of gave me anxiety atm

3.5mm jack is unfortunately history these days.
No matter how I loved corded headphones I find bluetooth headphones more convenient. And no more wires to tangle about and accidentally pull.
As for 'modern' smaller screen phones I would recommend Samsung S24/25/26. Look at marketplace or kijij for Unopened - sealed box and Canadian edition (model number ending with W). You can find sweet deals way cheaper than retail.

Samsung XCover 4 likely not in the approved list.  But use the IMEI checker to confirm and let us know

IMEI checker is NOT ACCURATE and it is a waste of time using it. Confirmed by agent a while ago.

Open a ticket and request from agent to confirm in writing your phone is compatible or  not with PM network.
If it is not either get a new phone or find better provider.

You have to open a ticket through 'new' chatbot and let agent clarify your issue.

@Sweetz

Moto G06 is not a Canadian model.  It is therefore not compatible with PM's VoLTE system (In fact, it is not even listed as a compatible device on Telus network)

Sweetz
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

there use to be a list, as i also have another phone with PM (so i have two devices) and now i am worried that the other one will also need to be upgraded, so then it becomes lets spend 1000$ for two phones in order to have access.. i really don't like when its forced to upgrade instead of a choice to upgrade.

seems like it needs to be anything 2024 and newer for phones to have the Volte ?

I think from other threads I have looked at that PM do not have a 'Whitelist' that they will share - again bizzare...

I have a Samsung S23 Ultra which I bought recently - refurbished, mainly to use a a 'big zoom' compact camera, and they accept the IMEI of that as being OK for the VoLTE. I find it a bit big to carry as a 'normal phone' but if they persist I guess I'll have to swap the SIM out.

Amazon CA deals on good refurbed phones seem reasonable if you want to save some money...

Sweetz

lucky is run off Bell
fido is rogers

i've been around the block with all the major companies and honestly NONE of them are as good as PM, hence why i never moved from it. Plus being in Newfoundland the only one which works best anywhere on the island is from Telus, all the others drop like flies and the prices for plans are horrible.

i am not wanting a phone where i have to do a splitter for either the 3.5mm or the charge (looked into it already)

is there a list still of what will be eligible for the phones? ( i know there once was where you can see which phone if you dont have the IMEI )

again thank you all for the assistance on this frustrating matter.

ICE_ICE_Baby
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Lucky Mobile and Fido get reviews as being good low cost providers - might be worth a look?

It does seem odd that PM as a go-to provider for quality low cost service then want you to spend more than you are saving on your plan to go out and buy a new phone... But I guess owned by Telus... it's all about getting more money out of us 'tight-fisted' customers! LOL

I think you want to stick with the Motorola made aleast 2024. Even better 2025.

You meant G6 or G06?  G06 has 6.88 inches screen

And as I said  you can use an adapter if you live the 3.5 mm jack

ICE_ICE_Baby
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Would something like a Samsung 'Flip' type phone suffice for keeping the footprint smaller?

Sweetz
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Okay I found a phone which still has the 3.5mm it's a bigger phone but it has the jack, how can I test to see that it's compatible, I don't have the IMEI, it's a Motorola Moto G06.

Thank you all for the assist atm, getting this message kinda of gave me anxiety atm

Yes loved my 3.5 m jack!! I had to get adaptor. Also, most phones now don't have physical SIM slot anymore...

3.5 mm, you can use an adapter

But small screen , still a smart phone, and is on PM'S VoLTE approved list, you really cannot find one

Unfortunately,  many companies are going this route. Some have already done since 2025.

Phones are getting bigger, not smaller. I guess you need to do some research.

Check Walmart or Costco see what they have. I know that Koodo also sells phones out right.

Don't rush it, take your time and research and learn.

Sweetz
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

So the issues are, small screen and needs to still have the 3.5mm jack (which sadly now a days is non existent) so if worse comes to worse, will need to get rid of a phone all together.

You need a proper Canadian phone not imported phone to use it on PM network

There are not many choices.  To be safe, to assure it is in the approved list , get a S24 phone, which has a 6.1 inches screen

Again need something with a small screen not a mini tablet. Did read the text seems like wanting to be branched off to another company. Simply put why would I go elsewhere where I am happy with whom I'm with.

I knew eventually I'd need to get a new phone, but again everything on the market is huge and I need a small screen!

Sweetz
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Need suggestions with a Small screen, as again mine is 5" not looking to have a 6.7" tablet

It's not about how long you've been a client. It's the technology changing. You can continue to use your phone for now until March in the meantime they will charge you extra $5 until then. Come March of next year, then you won't be able to have service.

Re-read the text and do some research.  The Samsung A16 is not bad. I have that as one of my phone.

Sweetz
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

It shows not compatible.

Got burned bad by telus/kodoo, hence why here at public mobile.

Where do I look for other alternatives, as looks like I'm going to have to get a new phone (forcefully) which is kinda not a good move from a consumers point of view.

So, it shows incompatible?

Yes, you need to change phone or you won't be able to receive calls using PM network

You might be able to change to Koodo or Telus

If budget an issue, check Samsung A16 , that is a phone what works
