I recently switched from one of the big 3, lured by the $50 plan. I noticed I was buffering Spotify in the car last night so I decided to investigate. Speedtest this morning: https://imgur.com/a/gWZmwnz
and
Google speedtest: https://imgur.com/a/HRwaIAW
I then refreshed my network connection based on a suggestion in another thread, and my network speed SLOWED DOWN. Google speedtest. https://imgur.com/a/KxL6cuD
"The average speed of 3G connections is 3 megabits per second (Mbps), which was 30 times faster than 2G average speed of 100 kilobits per second (or 0.1 Mbps). Some 3G connections could achieve speeds of 7Mbps.", per the BiPartisan Policy Center (here, https://bipartisanpolicy.org/blog/cellular-data-and-digital-divide/).
American source, but the least politically charged I could find.
Why am I paying $50 a month for a signal that can't handle a podcast or music?

Downtown Toronto should be good. Telus uses a combination of Bell and Telus towers and generally speaking, Bell has the best reception in DT Toronto.
But..I did have experience with Rogers. I worked in a building facing directly to CN Tower and the Rogers signal was terrible. Probably the signal , disturbance from CN Tower was way too strong.
Do you have friends on Telus/Bell/Koodo/Virgin? have them to test the signal in your particular location and see how if they are any better.
What kind of phone do you have?

Which company were you using before?
Maybe check the nearest cell tower:

PM uses Telus/Bell towers.

I tried dropping down to 3G to see if that got me a better connection. I was not able to run a speedtest as the connection on 3G was too spotty to actually get a connection.

So I have 10 GB of data and 2 GB of promotional data. And I use data a lot - typically 6-8 gb a month. What's the point of paying for it if you can't use it?

Most customers are able to get faster data speeds than what you are tested. Might be the location where you are.
Might want to force your phone to the 3G connection. LTE connection is capped. 3G connection is not capped and for some customers, offers a better data experience.

@joecanadian1 I think you are talking about 3Mpbs on LTE/LTE+ . From your screenshot , you are using LTE , not 3G
Which exact area , city and province, you are at?
Also, try to do one more thing, change the Network setting to 3G only. Yes, 3G sound old, but some reported that their speed at 3G network is better than LTE. PM traffic on 3G is not throttled and can reach 11Mpbs, while traffic on LTE network is throttled at 3Mpbs
Also, you might want to try your test again in other part of the town, some area could get a full 3Mps on LTE. Many of us getting close to this speed. Your awful result might be just related to the location (signal towers)
