I sometimes have to put a 1 before the area code when calling and sometimes I just don't have to. (For the same number that is a local number). May I know why this is? Sorry if this is a silly question, I just recently subscribed.

Yes. I've been dialing local and it is indeed random. This only has ever happend with public mobile. Not that it is a big deal, I was just wondering why. I appreciate any input thank you.

Historically local calls didn't need 1 in front, but long distance did need it.
Dialing a local number depends on your current location, not your phone number.

i don't think it has anything to do with iPhone or Android or landline, it is so random
all i can say is calling with a 1 for sure work, without one, it might or might not, more a luck thing

This seems to be a common issue but it depends if the number is on an iPhone, Android or landline.

I think it is more common now that is needed
usually your phone might be smart enough to add the 1 for you, but I usually just save the 1 in my contact list as well , less trouble
