[UPDATE] Last day to get our limited time 4GB / $40 promo plan!

Brooke_C
Retraité / Retired
Retraité / Retired

Note: The promo plan has been removed from our website; however is still available in the activation portal and in Self-Serve.

We will be honouring the promo plan for all customers who ordered their SIM card between October 25th-November 16th, but did not receive it before November 20th.

Why the November 16th cut-off date you might ask? SIM card orders take 1-2 business days to arrive at your home, and Canada Post does not deliver on the weekends. Knowing that there is a lead time for SIM cards to arrive, we have temporarily stopped SIM card ordering until after the promotion is complete. This is because anyone who would have ordered a SIM card after November 16th would not have received their SIM card in enough time to sign up for the promo plan. We didn’t want anyone to get your hopes up and then be disappointed.

If you get a SIM card at one of our pick-up locations this Friday and Saturday, you will need to sign-up for our promo plan on or before November 20th. The promo plan will not be honoured for these customers after November 20th.

Hey Community,

Yes, you read the subject line correctly! From October 25th to November 20th, we will be offering an amazing promotion where you can get 12GB of data, unlimited province-wide talk and unlimited global text on a 90 day plan for only $120. This equates to 4GB each month for the low, low price of $40 every 30 days. If there was ever a time to get friends and family to join Public Mobile, now would be it!

Check out the full details below to see how you and your friends and family can sign up for this awesome plan!

Things you need to know

  • This is the only promotional plan during this period. No other plans are affected
  • During the promo period, there will be two plans totaling $120: (1) the 6GB unlimited province-wide talk and global text plan and (2) the promotional plan, which has 12GB of data. Please be sure to choose the plan with twice as much data for the exact same price!
  • If you have signed up for the promotional plan, you will be able to keep it after the promo period, as long as you are an active customer. This means that, as long as you are an active customer on this plan, your plan price will remain at $120, even after your initial 90 days. No surprises.

Getting the plan

Pick & Pay Customers

If you are an existing Pick & Pay customer and are interested in taking advantage of the promo plan, you have two options:

  1. If your plan ends during the promo period: You can sign up for the plan in self-serve, as you normally would to change your plan
  2. If your plan ends after the promo period: You can future date a rate plan change during the promotional period, and have the promo plan take effect after November 20th. For example, if you’re currently on a 90 day plan that ends on November 28th, you will be able to sign into self-serve anytime between October 25th-November 20th and future date the promo plan to take effect upon your existing plan’s completion. Come November 21st, you would no longer be able to future date the promo plan.

This means that everyone has the option to take advantage of this great deal, regardless of when your existing rate plan ends.

Legacy Customers

If you are a legacy customer who is interested in having this promo plan, you will need to call into the call centre and upgrade to the Pick & Pay plan. Please note that, once you switch to a Pick & Pay plan, you will be unable to switch back to your old plan and will lose access to the call centre.

New Customers: You want to join because the grass is really greener over here

As a new customer, you can add the promo plan when you are prompted in the activation process. You will need to have your SIM card in hand in order to activate, so please be sure to order it first!

As long as you recharge, your 90days remain on the same plan... Quite the deal

This limitation is not from the plans nor the phone imo, since I'm on a grandfathered plan and can do the same (total of 3), I'll have to wait for the new plan to take effect to try it out with OP2 and see if I can get more ppl ... I never tried conferencing more ppl.

Tested call waiting works

tested conferance calling works.

(While the standard allows 5 or 6 people on GSM conference calls I thought - I was only able to conference myself with 2 other people for a total of 3, gave me an error adding a 4th person). [Not sure if this is a limitation with my phone or the network].

It is ongoing base as long as your account is active. You have to sign up before 20 Nov, though.

Hi Public Mobile,

This is an awesome deal!

Just had a quick question before I sign up. What happens after the 90 days? Would another plan be selected. Is it a $120 charge every 3 months or only for the first 3 months and then a different rate is applied?

Please let me know,

James Kim

Hi @jairolevi,

I'm actually using voip.ms with a twist of using Google Voice too

I have a Google Voice number in the US - so my voip.ms DID forwards to Google Voice in the US (I read somewhere that PM doesn't allow forwarding to US numbers so that's why the intermediary).

Google Voice transcribes and emails me the transcription plus a link to play.

My wife doesn't have a Google Voice number - so she (like you) just uses voip.ms which emails an attachment.

Yes it costs about 1c/minute (plus an addition 1c for me to forward to Google Voice) - but it's WAY more convenient than dialing in to get voicemail messages!

Do you mean about conditional forwarding?

Voicemail itself uses conditional forwarding to transfer the caller to voicemail if the phone is busy/not-answered/out of reach.

Many carriers (like Rogers and Fido (now that Rogers own them)) disable conditional forwarding so people can't adjust these settings. [They probably do this to prevent complaints where people screw-up their voicemail setup and them bug customer service with 'my voicemail isn't working'..]

Fido's web page says:

Conditional Call Forwarding (only available when you don’t have Voice Messaging)

Redirects calls if you’re out of reach, if you do not answer or if you’re busy. Here's an exemple:

Out of reach:

  • Your incoming calls are redirected to a chosen number if your phone is switched off or is outside your coverage area.

No reply:

  • Your incoming calls are redirected to a chosen number if you don’t answer (normally within 20 seconds).

Busy:

  • Your incoming calls are redirected to a chosen number when you’re already on a call.

I'm adjusting my conditional forwarding because I use a custom voicemail service that is doing voice to text and emails me the text plus a link to play the audio. I setup each of the conditional forwarding to forward calls to my own voicemail service instead of PM's service.

Wow. Seems like people are hopping on this plan like crazy. Good stuff.

It's probably been really busy with activations since most people have started receiving their sim cards after ordering them last week.

YES

and even MORE awesome; (for those who sometimes want to have more complex call disposition or integrate with external voicemail) - PM even supports conditional forwarding.   *61/*62/*67

Not all GSM carriers support this when voicemail is on the account (Fido used to for instance, but ended support when they were bought by Rogers since Rogers didn't allow this).

I'm really liking PM!!!!!!

Hi,

This is definitely a great offer, however, is Public Mobile going to extend the offer beyond November 20th? I've been trying to sign up since the first week that offer was introduced and have not been able to register the SIM due to some error on your website. I have private messaged one of the Mods with regards to the issue that many people are experiencing and have not received a response. I understand that all the Mods are swamped and working hard to resolve issues from the launch of the promotion, however, is Telus/Public Mobile going to provide more resources to assist the Mods? Not sure, if my issue will be resolved by the time promotion will be over or will I be able to still received the promo it due to my issue?

Thanks.

@tarek_joy this is normal as your plan is currently in the process of renewing.  It always temporarily shows "suspended" or "expired" during the renewal evening, but your services should all still be working normally.  By tomorrow morning it will be back to Active, but will have renewed on your previous plan, as you didn't get the request in before the renewal process began.

Your best bet is to contact one of the moderators tomorrow, and they should be able to assist you with moving to the new plan.  OR, you could schedule it tomorrow for your next renewal, but then you'd have to wait 30 or 90 days (depending on your current plan length) to get on the new plan.

Hi Brooke,

My plan has just expired on October 31, 2016. Now my account shows suspended after 12 am and am trying to get the new plan for $40- unlimited provincial talk, unlimited text and 12GB of data for $120.

But after I select my choices the button to change the plan on next renewal date does not work.

Any idea?

Please help me to get that plan.

Thanks

Hi @Jiangjun1949

They will come back at 9 am tomorrow. You don't have to know who is available. Once you tag any one of moderators, the system will transfer to available one. You can get more detail from this link. Thanks

I renewed my future plan to be $120 promo with 12G data after current plan end. I do notice that my account show "Future Dated Plan Changes: Your base Plan will switch to 90-day pass ( $120 ) on Jan 3, 2017". Just because now PM has two $120 plans in addition to system makes mistakes. How do I know it will be switched to the right plan, which will be 12G instead of 6G? I am still worrying if it will get through or not.

Does it say "Fall 2016 Promo" anywhere? If you selected the right one it should hopefully work. You can always try asking a mod to fix it if for some reason it doesn't work properly.

Best cellphone plan in the country! It really shows how smart PM is. Reducing overhead cost to bring the best possible value to customers is, in my opinion, the best approach to gain market share. I will be recommending you to everyone I know.
