So I finally got the answer.You have to power down the phone and remove the sim card for 5-10 mins.This allows the system to catch up.After a minimum of 5 mins replace the sim card and turn the phone on.Mine phone number was updated and all was good.

Still showing my old number locally on the sim. everywhere else is showing my new number.I just cant seem to edit "this phone" on the sim/android device.
