Hi All. There is a seller on facebook Marketplace, $1100 firm with a receipt showing it was purchased in October 2024 for over $2000 plus GST, he will give me the receipt, but are there still concerns of it being flagged in the future/blacklisted/blocked? Why would someone want to lose money on something they recently purchased and "changed their mind"? thoughts everyone?

Even if everything goes well, seller might claim phone is stolen later on and then it will be blacklisted. I wouldn't risk it.

Beside checking if the phone is Blacklisted. As to see if your SIM works in the phone.
Also meet in a public place and when they ask for an e-transfer so they can hold it…DON’T.
I was in an Apple Genius store last year and a lady purchased a new iPhone in a box and the technician told her that it was a fake.
I recommend friends to shop at Openbox.ca.
You can get the same one an openbox for $1400 or new for $1500 and it comes with a 90 day warranty. No refurbished one at this time.

Maybe receipt is not 'original'? Today you can make anything and everything with few handy programs to look 'like original'.
As @Handy1 mentioned, look WHEN they joined marketplace. Look for a person with some sale history and rating (if any).
Many reasons why somebody is selling item at loss. I did buy SSD (with receipt) for 1/5 of the original price. Did not ask WHY guy was selling it, SSD works perfectly so end of story.
There is always a possibility phone might become blacklisted so it is a risk you have to take buying 'second hand' phone.

@Rand4e Make sure they didn’t just join market place in the last month or so that’s red flag if they been around for more then 5years then I’d take closer look at things
adding @Rand4e and if they ask for e-transfer to hold it then that’s another red flag you want in person exchange and exercising due diligence to make sure it’s not been refurbished ie replacement screen etc

I used to buy preowned phones online back in the day when costs were low, $200 or less. If the deal went south for any reason, it is not that big of a deal. These days, with hardware costs so high it incentivizes the scammers. Not worth my trouble. Also, Google phones have become popular and are generally well priced when they have a sale. The software support matches iPhone. Hard pass on buying used phones online.
