Question about Spotify advertisements

Not sure where to post this so we'll see how much activity it gets in the Lounge.

For those of us who live in Ontario, and use the free Spotify service (not paid subs), do you ever get french advertisements on spotify?

If yes, how close do you live to the Quebec border?  I'm personally less than 100km from the border and I frequently get french ads when using spotify on mobile data.  No recent experience when on wifi.

So I'm wondering if it's anything to do with how close I live to QC or because of pub mobile in general, or do all Canadian wireless providers have to play french ads by law.

If there's any workarounds to change them please share!

Ads on Spotify can get annoying fast! 😤 If your company gives wellness perks, see whether they cover discounted music plans or ad-free listening. Some employers include these extras for staff, and details may be shared through the txrhlive.com employee portal. It may be a good idea to check with HR. It can make daily travel a lot more relaxing.

Yup, I’ve had the same thing happen, French ads pop up out of nowhere, especially when I’m on mobile data near Quebec. It’s probably location-based targeting or some regulatory thing tied to mobile networks. That’s actually one reason I switched to Spotify MOD Premium APKno ads at all, regardless of where I am or what network I’m on. Makes the whole experience smoother, especially on long drives near the border!

Interesting observation! I’m in Ontario too (a bit further from the Quebec border), and I’ve definitely noticed the occasional French ad on Spotify—usually when I'm on mobile data as well. It might be tied to your IP/geolocation, especially if mobile networks route traffic in a way that puts you closer to Quebec in the ad system’s eyes. I’ve heard Canadian broadcasters are subject to certain bilingual ad regulations, but not sure how strictly Spotify follows that. Would love to know if anyone’s found a way to tweak ad settings or if it's just something we roll with as part of free Spotify life 🇨🇦.

Ads on Spotify can be so disruptive! 😤 If your workplace offers wellness perks, check if they include subsidized music subscriptions—some companies partner with services for ad-free access. Ours even lists these benefits in the txrhlive.com employee portal. Might be worth asking HR! Saves data and sanity during commutes.

It seems that the French ads on Spotify in Ontario could indeed be influenced by your location or mobile provider, especially given your proximity to Quebec. Unfortunately, this could be a part of Canadian regulations or how Spotify targets ads based on IP addresses. If you’re looking to skip the ads entirely, you might want to consider upgrading to Spotify Premium for PC for an ad-free experience!

Receiving French ads on Spotify in Ontario, particularly near the Quebec border, might be influenced by your location or mobile data settings. Wireless providers often deliver ads based on location data, and Canadian regulations may encourage the promotion of French-language ads. Additionally, I recommend checking out home workify for useful tips and tools to improve productivity and organize tasks effectively.

Many wireless providers may serve ads based on location data, and in Canada, there could be regulations promoting French-language ads. Additionally, for those interested, I highly recommend checking out Spotify++ for enhanced features and a better overall experience.

Well I had the account changed to USA and I still hear french ads. So that's not the same fix as accounts in the EU.  Interesting how cell providers are geo-located to spotify and how Spotify assumes all Canadians want to hear french ads.

I don't know what they say in french so I can't confirm!  Apparently spotify accounts in Canada will get ads in both languages so I think I know what I have to do...

This is very likely based on IP address.  The IP address asigned by an provider can often be linked to a location that isn't nearby.

Are they entirely different ads that you don't see in English? Or are they the same outfit in both languages?
