It's our mini oasis in the city and makes a huge difference in heat of summer dropping the temperature by at least 5 c degrees as soon as you enter the yard.

Its great you enjoy your backyard! Quite a lot of wildlife to enjoy, and it looks quite easy on the maintenance budget. Allows you more money and energy than many others have perhaps? more to give to others, and to do things you love. Enjoy the greenery!

We subscribe to Vancouver's green policy and maintain a no water yard the supports a wide variety of "wildlife" within its natural landscape including blackie and halfpipe (the black squirrels), mooch (the loner grey squirrel), rocky the one eyed raccoon and her yearly kits, at least 30 different native bird species including flickas, woodpeckers, warblers, bushtits, hummingbirds, townees, morning doves, chickadees, creepers, robins, sparrows, finches, junkies, nuthatches, wrens, thrushes, a goshawk and of course crows. We also get the occasional coyote....you may remember bitey the coyote a couple years ago from the news....well he was living in our yard and tranquilizer by a conservation officer about 10 feet from my back door as I was hauling my bike out to go to work. Rats and mice are few and far between....we have murder mitts marcus and minty the marauder for that.
