unforutantley, it needs to be carrier enabled, and there is usually a fee associated with this. I think Telus and Koodo charge about $5 a month for this. And since public mobile is seen a no frills company, you only get the basics
If you really wanted you could forward your unanswered calls to fongo. Fongo has visual voicemail. Not sure if you could have fongo go directly to voicemail or set it to one ring.
Would be great to have this, it's pretty basic but I agree no providers should be charging extra for this. I haven't had VVM in years because of the extra charge
