Get Rid of Emails

Public should revamp log in system to get rid of email registrations altogether. All kinds of issues have been popping up from this, everything from Koodo/Telus port issues to abuse of the communities by shill accounts.

Public should have as a long term goal, all login done with cell number + password/pin combination.

One single access point, easily verified (via txt message for registration, password recovery) for account info, community, and tech support.

How many times have we seen mods trying to ask please PM me your cell I will look at your account.

It's actually the community that would require a login change.  The issue is that if you use a different email for the community than your self-serve account, the mods have no way to link the two behind the scenes, so they require you to private message your info.  Changing self-serve to using phone number login would not solve that.  And the challenge with making the community login via phone number is what about people whom are not yet customers and want to register to ask questions and so forth?  Phone numbers also can change, etc.

I agree that it would be great to have better linkage than one's email between the two systems, but I'm not sure this is the best way to accomplish that.

@srlawren I agree we need to allow visitors. Whether they should be allowed to post is a different issue.

Nevertheless, it's not clear why there needs to be multiple accounts for actual customers. One log in with user name (phone number, email address, unique creation, whatever) and password providing access to the Community to Post and Bravo, one's account, and order SIMs.

@srlawren although I had totally forgotten the potential clients who might wish to ask a legitimate question  the overall issue remains

Most of Public's clients dislike the seperate message board / account issue (heck I personally wish I could link multiple accounts but Public insists not at this time)

And we all saw 2 certain new member who thought a great way to get status was to inflate his post & bravo counts through the use of multiple shill accounts (looks like mods finally stopped them but still)
