Hi Public Mobile,

I was thinking it would be nice if there was a per mb data overage rate for those of us who go over our plan. I have no problem putting extra credit on my account and enabling some sort of data overage for the months that I need more than 1 GB. I know there is a 4 GB plan and a $30 add on for 1 GB but these dont really cater to my needs, I would personally rather pay say an extra $5 for each 250 mb or even better $0.05 per mb when I go over my data.

Thanks,

Rick

^This is not the Preferred way of doing Prepaid. No we don't want it. You do know the $10 200MB & $30 1GB doesn't expire till all used up, even if it takes a year or two or three as long as your account remains active.

I would agree with that. Data overtages is NOT the answer. Add-On Data is, especially if ppl need to watch what they pay for month to month, Data Overtages would throw Bill into disarray

Sorry @Rick I agree with @makkahn28 and @chukdefatey. Overages leads to unexpected costs that one wasn't expecting and goes against the prepay model. as chuk pointed out having the add-ons allows you to have overages as long as you paid for them upfront, and they last forever. If running out concerns you i suggest just paying the $10 once for the 200MB and then your concern is covered.

I wasn't really suggesting that it automatically start racking up overage charges....more along the lines of a text asking you to opt in for an extra 250 mb for $5 or opt in to get more data when you run out.....I don't know about you guys but $10 for 200 mb or $30 for a gb is a bit expensive especially for people who are price conscious. @Charanth182@makkahn28@chukdefatey

Thats the great thing about prepaid aswell, you can't really rack up charges or incur extra charges because it is prepaid not postpaid. Options are great I'm not saying that the current add ons may not work for some people they just don't work for me.

^ Well actually with most Prepaid companies you can rack up charges however it's limited to the Postive (Like I have TMO Prepaid line with $700+ balance) Balance you have. Example: Imagine you just top uped $40 to cover your plan or plan add on and someone sends you an incoming text( which you have no control over) that would cost you .30c now days on Bell, Rogers & Telus or you accidentally used up Data. There goes your Plan or plan add on renewal, because now you don't have enough to cover the charges. With PM & Koodo PREPAID this wouldn't happen , so this is how Prepaid should be with any company. Mobilicity's & PublicMobile's old My Wallet thing was similar to this. But I like the current PM & Koodo PREPAID system better because with the My Wallet system you can still rack up charges if you have money in your 'My Wallet' but at least your plan renews because you pay for the plan separately.

@Rick

I get your point, but I would also like to show things in a different angle.

You are right that $30 for 1GB of data is a complete ripoff.  However, the $0.05/MB you suggested is even worse, as it amounts to $50 per GB.

If you buy 1GB @ $30 (and because it won't expire), every MB you use will cost you $0.03 instead of $0.05, almost half the rate.

So even in your case, it could turn out to be only half the ripoff.  Not as bad now, eh? 😛
