I think it'd be a great idea if people were aware of how an APN sometimes needs to be setup. If you weren't aware of it (many people aren't) you may come here to the forums to complain about data not working. My friend just signed up and told me a week in that he was ticked off because he wasn't getting data. I simply sent him a link to the guide on the forums.

Like the automated text you get when you sign up, if someone signs up for data they should also get a message telling them how to setup the APN, or at the very least send them a link to a guide on how to do it.

This is actually a great idea, I had to switch sims, and in the wild had to find a wifi hotspot to revert PM APN with correct settings after having putting in different carrier sim, and then switching back. ( on a side note, I only had to add the first 2 fields and the phone remembered the rest)Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for reference

Perhaps sending a plain text attachment that can be opened/viewed without the need for wifi ??

I know, I had not realized to change my APN settings when I unlocked my phone for the first time, so perhaps sending out a message with an explantation attachment, reminding people how to check APN settings, could resolve alot of PM's not getting data, issues or complaints?

Plain text/picture message would be ideal! I think it would prevent a lot of initial complaints, even the ones PM doesn't hear about because some people will figure it out on their own.

Yes, certainly an unique and important idea that may help in reducing the strain of ppl asking about this

When I went to Sri Lanka last year and picked up a local SIM, I received a text message with the prompt to download the APN settings (I didn't have to manually enter anything -- the text message had a little script that downloaded/programmed the APN settings with a single click).

Perhaps PM should look into something like this.
