When i first ported over to public mobile I lost my mobile data because I didnt even know I needed to add the APN. Had to borrow a friends phone to troubleshoot.

Would be nice if public mobile included a little paper with the APN settings. They could make it cute like their other material with a little dude yelling "HEY follow these steps to make sure your data/internet is activated with your new sim! Or even print it on the back of the "credit card" the sim card comes in. Also a link to ios/android instructions on changing APN.

Even a regular white paper would be ok to keep costs down, had some issues with my phone and had to do a reset. Forgot to write down the APN and was stuck with no data until i could get to someone to let me borrow their phone again. It was my bad for not writing it down but it could help so many people less techy than me to figure out a solution before they give up on or bash public mobile or even to keep them from having to come here or google for help.

Hard to access the forum with no data if it is your only device or your in a remote location. Most people less techy than ourselves would be absolutely clueless to what to even search for even of they could search at all.

Having the settings printed somewhere would give a headsup BEFORE you port over that an APN change may be required for data to work thus if you had that information you would not have needed to come to the forum yourself.

Not that coming to the forums is a bad thing just saying people want things to work "out of the box" and im sure most people have never added an APN in their life.

When I first ported over to PM, I didn't even know what APN settings were. I just put the sim inside my iPhone 7 and it requested to update carrier settings. I pressed okay and everything was automatic. Data was up and running in no time. So I'm still not sure which phone are able to do this automatically.

It must be a case by case thing mine and my husbands both worked right away without adjusting any settings

I guess my case is different as I used my home PC to complete the port to PM.... assuming you only have Internet via your phone in which case the PM forum won't help.

Only thing that might have helped you is if PM printed the APN setup information on the SIM card as there is no other printed info that they share (That I know of...).

The phone was an lg g4. It never offered a switch carrier settings option. Printed APN info with the sim card is what I suggested in my original post as I figured anybody in my situation would be very confused and might be sitting around thinking it was a porting issue when it can be remedied immediately.

Forgot to say thanks for adding the link VR incase anyone in the future googles this problem.

@Ktm07sx, the APN data settings does not reside in the SIM card.  It sits in a APN configuration xml file on the phone.  The phone attempts to match SIM with available APN configurations on file.  Depending on the phone and its source, the configuration file can be rather neutered purposely to make life miserable for the user.  I am not kidding about this comment.  I suspect the G4 was sourced from Rogers or Bell and so therefore it was stripped of any Telus or flanker APN settings.  I buy my phones from non carrier sources and most often it runs a custom rom.  I have never had issues with using any SIM card on a phone.

Back when I used Mobilicity (right when they were switching over to Rogers network) I noticed that every time I switched my SIM over to a different device (I change phones a lot), I would get a text message saying that configuration updates were being pushed to my phone. Soon after, it would automatically send me APNs for data and MMS and all I had to do was click apply. Was really convienent and I wonder if Telus/PM would be able to do the same.
