Sim not supported, but was?!

lreber

My Iphone 6 is supported, but when I put the new Sim card in I get this message:

" The sim card that you currently have installed in this iphone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iphone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iphone be unlocked by your carrier."

I own my phone so it is no locked. I canceled my last plan. Any help would be great!

Thanks

Why do you have to lie to get your phone unlocked? Don't providers have to unlock your phone by law now, no questions asked? Shouldn't they be able to use your IMEI number to identify your phone and then do what needs to be done?

Canadian carriers need to unlock phones that are already locked to them, but that doesn't mean it's automatic.  The customer has to request it.  Phones sold starting on December 1, 2017 needed to be unlocked as soon as the customer received it or purchased it at the store.

Right - but why are people saying to tell them you're roaming as the reason why you need it unlocked? Shouldn't you be able to just say, "Hey Bell - I want my phone unlocked" and then they right away go and do it?

you have to unlocked your phone.

when I ported my daughter's phone, it has as same message as you have.

So firt I contact the current provider and ask them to unlock the phone.

after 1 day, I ported my daughter's phone.

As iphone, you don't need to unlocked code, just ask the provider. they are going to contact Apple and unlock your phone. It is easy but you don't have account of the provider, you have to find a person who has account and ask to help it.

they ususally ask the reason why you need to unlocked the phone.

Just say, I am going to treavel to US, but roaming is expensive so that I want to buy a sim card and use it.

Even they unlocked you phone, you have to test it is unlocked with a different sim card.

If ok, ported to PM.

Good luck.

Sorry, but your iPhone 6 is not unlocked.  Owning your device has nothing to do with whether it is unlocked or not, neither does the fact that you cancelled your plan at your last carrier.  You'll first need to get your device unlocked to use at Public Mobile.

Yeah, they should give you your unlock code (they'll ask for your phone's IMEI number, I think).

Are you prompted for an unlock code or PIN or anything when you restart your phone, with the SIM inserted? If so, that's where you'll enter the "unlock code" that your previous provider gives you.

There's no such thing an unlock code for any iPhone devices.  Apple keeps a list of which phones are allowed to accept any carrier's sim card/of unlocked devices.

You'll have to call Bell, they'll unlock the phone for you for free. If they give you any hassle with it just tell them you are travelling internationally and need to use it then.

Hey, Thank you.

I am calling Bell to see if that is the problem.

Hi there,

I am not prompted for anything. I can't access anything either. All I get is that message. I've restarted my phone as well. Calling Bell right now to see if it is on their end with the locked business. Thank you for your replys.
