I would argue if anyone is using that much data per month you are far better off activating the Tablet plan $15 for 3GB & using as a WiFi hotspot
Public $38 + Tablet $15 = $53 (avg 7GB per month with $10 per 1GB over)
Promo 60 = $60 (10GB per month, BUT $10 per 100MB over)
WiFi would also be a far cheaper / better alternative (or disabling some of those pointless background apps)
It is $22 (or more) per year only if you stay within your 12gb over 90 days. If you need more, your costs sky rocket. That was the point of my original post. For higher data needs, it is not cost effective on public mobile.
I'm going to assume that most people aren't getting community rewards. That shouldn't be factored into a decision as it requires you to be active. I haven't gotten any over the last 1.5 years I've been on public mobile. Loyalty is $1 per year to a max of $5. It still doesn't cover the difference of the per gb data rate for heavier users.
Let's look at your examples:
Public $38 + Tablet $15 = $53 (avg 7GB per month with $10 per 1GB over)
- you need to take that to 10gb in order to be comparable. $10 per gb means another $30
- Total will be $38 + $15 + $30 = $83 even with $5 loyalty discount would be $78
Promo 60 = $60 (10GB per month, BUT $10 per 100MB over)
- The overage depends on the company you decide to go with
- Koodo is $7 per 100mb or $20 per gb
- Telus is $5 per 200mb or $15 per gb
The only benefit of going with the tablet plan for additional data is that you are not forced to pay for data you don't need (as long as you are under 7gb). But most would argue that $7 more for the convenience of not having to tether to an tablet (that may or may not be with you) and for additional 3gb, they would rather go with the $60 plan.
Not to mention $60 plan includes canada wide calling.
Everyone has their own usage patterns. Both plans are great but neither plan is for everyone.

The problem with PM is the high price for additional data. My wife has a problem staying within the 12gb over 90 days but $30 for an additional GB is excessive.
I decided to switch her to the 10gb plan. Yes it cost more but $38 vs $60 is only $22 difference. At $30 a gb with public mobile, this adds up very quickly. For anyone that has higher data needs the current $60 10gb plan is a no brainer.
The public mobile plan is a good plan and even though I want to get my wife the 10gb plan, I still want to keep her existing plan with public mobile. I have family members lined up to take it. That's how good this plan is.

lol @wetcoaster its actually kinda funny, your rant against the $60/10GB plans makes the Chatr plan sound more to your taste
It was something like $45 for 6GB, which if you do not need 10GB would have worked just fine (plus rem $10 autopay credit for 8 months)
But it got no airtime after the 10GB plans hit the airwaves (these plans were never advertised either, it was solely word of mouth, which shows how little anyone talks about Chatr)
Plans were in store so easy access to anyone off the street
@wetcoaster wrote:1) I was directly referring to the $60/10GB promos offered by the top and second tier providers the OP wanted PM to beat.
2) There was no promo from ChatR showing up when I did my research Saturday night. So whatever smok'n' deal from ChatR you are referring to was either a very obscure regional one, very time limited and/or available only to existing customers.
Having said all that, I'm happy with what I have here at PM and for the foreseeable future I don't see a reason to spend roughly 3 times the money for something I'd not use. So I'm not spending 24/7 in search for a better data deal - I could easily just have missed it. 😉

Fully agree it's a Telus thing which is too bad, I really wish I had switched to PM sooner.

My conclusion too, but I attribute the decision to Telus not PM's marketing team.

This is a good time to make friends aware that $60 for 10GB isn't really that good of a deal. 🙂
Most people still don't know about PM so when a good PM promo appears, it's time to remind everyone to switch.

@ShawnC13 noone takes Freedom seriously
Having said that, Public & Freedom have both been trying to out-promo the other this year
@ShawnC13 wrote:@sirvar, I don't think PM considers Freedom a Competitor. With the amount of money Shaw has and will be investing in their mobile business PM won't be able to compete against them (yes in the future) As stated Chatr and Lucky are our 3rd Tier competition.

They had promos just for freedom customers to switch to pm so they did consider them a competitor. Not sure how that will play out in the future

I rarely leave BC but in the event I'm in another province, I'll still have Canada-wide data. So despite the increase amount of data, I'd much rather save $32/month and keep my existing PM plan for life. With the other carriers, you never know when they'll increase their prices.
If you travel within Canada often and need Canada-wide calling, then that's another issue altogether. Think about what you need features wise, then decide whether it's worth the price of admission.
For the casual long distance calls, buying add on minutes is a reasonable alternative, especially if there are good savings under the current plan.

Begging for promotions to be introduced amounts to banging head onto a hard wall. It is not going to help one bit. Telus knows exactly what is going on here. Not having any promos at Public Mobile is part of their master plan for the overall business. Ours is not to question why but to react to the market as we see it unfold. Don't like what you see here or like what you see elsewhere, the actions are obvious.

I barely use my 12gb/90 days one. but currently every competitor (aside from chatr and lucky) has a 10gb plan for $60 or $50 in freedom's case. i am sure you can agree pm considers freedom a competitor so even if its not the $50 price, $60 just to stay relevant. you see where im going with this?

Nope, those promos are on first and second tier on post paid only. The ones Public Mobile is competing with (ChatR and Lucky) don't offer this.
PM isn't specialised in catering to the extremely data hungry. If you are in need of that much data you should not pass on the opportunity to take it before it's too late.
12-17-2017 10:08 PM
I don't use much data so these new promos with 10gb are way too much for me to take advantage of. But it would still be nice to see some new promos from Public Mobile to let people know that we are still alive and kicking 🙂
