@jessicacjones17 just to slightly clarify what @mimmo is saying here:  he is not saying you will receive the SMS service in it's entirety at no cost; instead, he is saying that you will be able to receive incoming SMS messages at no cost.  In order to reply to them however, or send any outbound SMS messages at all, you need to puchase the US Roaming Texing 10-day add-on, or one fo the bundles that includes it.

@jessicacjones17 I think it is really depends on how many days are you travelling. You can download a free calling app before you travel. You can use the calling app whenever you have wifi. It is free to call and text within North America.

@jessicacjones17 , you will need to purchase a US roaming add-on in order to use your phone in the US.  These add-ons last 10 days.  The cost is a few bucks a day, quite cost effective.  You can do that via your self serve account.  Because these add-ons start immediately on purchase, it would be advisable to buy them at the last minute.  Click on the add-on in this page to expand the listing.  You will see a number of available US roaming add-ons.
