I echo the ease of transferring, but I have a different situation...

(And apologize for the tangent, but thought it might be apropos for anyone in a similar situation after porting from Freedom.)  Has anyone gotten a refund from Freedom due to a credit balance?  I canceled before the end of the billing cycle and ended up with a credit balance (even though it's a post-paid account, so not sure how that works).  It's a measely $5.61, but I may as well get it back!  Rep said it could take 8 weeks -- called today and they re-iterated this (I've just surpassed 8 weeks of freedom from Freedom!), saying it should be in the mail this week (but had no way to check whether a cheque was actually issued).  Just wondering if any consumer has some first-hand experience...

I can still log into my account, but that door may close any day now based on info provided by @will13am (thanks for the warning about the 8 weeks; I'm a couple days over 8 weeks and can still log in, but thinking days are numbered).

I can comment on the refund as well.  They process the refund cheque after 8 weeks which means expect it in your mail box a week or two later.  I did receive my refund as promised when I closed out my account.  Print/Save a copy of your final statement just in case the refund does not arrive.

Thanks for th info. I already deleted my credit card from my freedom account. So i guess, i have to pay the last bill manually instead of auto debit.

This is another way to handle the final bill.  Just make sure the bill is paid on time.  You don't want to sully the credit rating over such a small amount of money.

@prestiravi, being a Wind Mobile migrant and helping many others migrate, I have a lot of past experience with this.  You do need to keep the credit card on file so that the final bill can be paid out.  Normally, you will continue to have access to the Freedom account online for 8 weeks after a successful port.  Give yourself a reminder to go into the account after the final bill is paid and remove the credit card from the system.  Other than that, there is no need for any interaction with Freedom.  The account will not be acessible to you after 8 weeks.  However, the actual account will remain in their system forever.  I know this part because I was a repeat customer and on the second time, they restore my old account because it was still in their system.  Thus the precautionary measure of removing the credit card after final payment is strongly recommended.

Welcome to Public Mobile!!

Your answer - no! You do NOT have to call Freedom and cancel, the porting process automatically cancels it for you. 🙂

If you have some kind of balance owing (such as a tab) it'll become due now but your actual FM account should be closed.

As a personal rule you'll want to check your credit card statement to make sure FM doesn't try and charge you but this would be unlikely.

In case you're wondering why it's so easy, it's because it's mandated by the CRTC - here's the official rule on all this: Switch Providers and Keep your Number

Basically the new provider (which for you is Public Mobile) does the heavy lifting with porting your number over and letting your old provider know about it. Easy peasy. 🙂
