I received a phone call about an hour ago, telling me my service is going to be suspended. what should I do

just ignore that call. Someone is trying to scam people with those calls.

From my understanding Public Mobile does not call you to tell you anything regarding your service; its just by text messages. 

Did you sign into your My Account to check the status of your account?

If all is good, just ignore the call. Lots of scamming out there.
