Tried activating using a physical SIM and transferring my number at the same time using the IMEI number of my old phone. Now I'm just getting a message saying that something didn't go right while activating my subscription and I need to contact a customer support agent. But no agents are available and I'm not able to wait in line.

I would suggest you use your previous account number from your old carrier rather than the IMEI. It works a lot smoother. When an agent reply back, use the old account number.

the error you got has nothing to do with you provided IMEI or not, it is really a problem with your activation itself.
