I agree with all the above.  You can actually port during activation, but the reason it is suggested to port after activation, is that ocassinailly there are activation issues. And if those occur it is better they happen to a temp number rather than a ported number.

@gregpieper  Best to activate the PM sim with a temporary number and once the sim is activated and your selfserve account is created then you can do the port online through your selfserve account.

Also don't cancell plan with old carrier before port to PM is complete. PM will cancell old plan automatically.
