Hey Community and PM,
Imessage stopped working all of a sudden on my iPhone SE. I did all the resets, no luck. Finally got a new phone thinking the was the problem. Put the SIM card into the new iPhone 12 and it said, Imessage cannot activate with sim..... went to apple, apple did everything they possibly could through apple support resetting the phone, turning on and off iMessage, resetting iCloud account etc, and re-registering my cel number. Still iMessage is not working. What the heck? Please help this came out of nowhere and makes no sense. For those who are going to ask me, if I am on wifi, the answer is yes, when the phone is on airplane mode on wifi, strong signal sitting across from the router, still imessage will not work. Updated to the newest iOS 17 still doesn't work. PM help. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of anyone or submit a ticket to see what the problem is in your business, it is REALLY FRUSTRATING. This is really impacting my business with clients, it needs to be fixed now!

@merekal The odd thing is that it isn't working with wifi only either, which wouldn't seem to have anything to do with the cellular carrier. You said you had turned airplane on and presumably turned it off again! I know my iMessage has been a bit cranky since updated to ios17. Somehow the Send and Receive check mark switched to email instead of phone number, so I corrected that. Then I turned iMessage off, waited a while and then turned it on again. I imagine you have done all that already. Hopefully you will get a reply soon from PM customer service and they may have some ideas.

its the same sim. just took it from the old phone into the new phone.

@merekal "just put the new sim in it" So this is not the same sim that was in the old phone?
The reason I asked about Quick Start was in case it might have transferred the problem (a setting?) from the old phone to the new. Obviously that's not the issue since you didn't use it.

I did that last night, still no luck. Why is this happening?

I did not use Quick Start when I transferred phones. As I said Imessage stopped working on the old phone first. And then I bought a new phone. Still same issue showing up with iMessage on new phone. I set up the new phone without transferring through Quick Start, just put the new sim in it, still same issue. Yes the date and Time is on 'set automatically'.

@merekal Did Apple have you check date and time and time zone settings? When you switched phones did you use Quick Start?

okay thank you, I've emailed CS to request this be done!

Yes. Just check your inbox on the top right corner once they have done so then you can try turning off Send & Receive and iMessage then restart and see if that helps.

okay great, just email them and ask them to reset my network?

Only option I have left is to reach out to a CS Agent and ask them to reset your network. It's a long shot but it may help. You'll have to have your phone shut off while the network is reset though.

go to iMessage, remove your phone number there, reboot and go back and enter your number there and try

I just checked my account, I have 33GB of data lef to use and my renewal is in a week... so I'm more than fine....

No idea what the issue, I have a 5s a whole back and I had nothing but problems with iMessage for days at a time and it was on and off. Eventually after going back and forth with Apple it was able to work. The only I can say is keep trying I have no idea.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you ran out of data. iMessage runs off on data or WiFi only....

Hey Sterlinger,
I did this on the phone today multiple times with apple support and on my own from home. Still not working!

iMessage isn’t related to your phone number, it’s based off of your iCloud. When I had that problem I when to settings turned off iMessage and where it’s sent from, restarted my phone and changed to back to my phone number. Make sure to send and receive from either your phone number or your email.
To do so go to Setting, scroll down to Messages, Send & Receive and uncheck all. Then turn off iMessage. Restart and re-enable.
