I noticed one can purchase eSIM's now. My question is does this work like an eSIM I can purchased from Airalo, Holafly etc and use in other countries while traveling or is the eSIM strictly meant to be used inside Canada?

A Public Mobile eSIM can only be used where Public Mobile offers service. Public Mobile only ofers serivce in Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America.

in short, it is still only used in Canada
Long explanation, eSIM is just a different mean of "sim card", instead of physical, it is a software sim.
What you were talking about, Airalo or Holafly, are travel eSIM. There are physical travel sim too, but just the world is going for non-physical for connivence and cost saving
So, the eSIM itself does not mean it will work worldwide. PM is still a Canada provider and only provide roaming in US and Mexico and no where else. The introduction of eSIM just a way to "replace" physical sim, not expand roaming coverage
