Although my plan, phone is with a friend.
She's used her 6gb for month so I bought an additional 1gb data for $30 this morning.
however she says she still has no data.
When I look at my account it shows the $30 payment but doesn't show the line where data used anymore.
Any idea whats going on?

It should already be active. If any trouble, simply restart the phone and she should have data access.

Went through it again just now and the additional gb now showing up. when i can get hold of her she'll try to use.

By doing that, the system places the payment as Available Balance instead of directly processing the add-on purchase. In your self-serve account, you will see $30 as account balance. You will need to buy the add-on again and it will use the added balance to add the add-on. This is the normal process to purchase an add-on.

If that amount taken out is now sitting in your available balance on your Self Serve, refer to above in order to purchase the add-on properly.
If you have no available funds in your self-serve and have not received the add-on, PM the Moderator Team to notify them of this issue and see if they can clear it up for you. They do not close up shop until 9pm EST (3 hrs from now) and will hopefully be able to get back to you soon.

That $30 should be sitting under Available Balance. In this case, you will need to buy that add-on again and this time it will use the added payment to add the add-on to your account.

Its a 2 step process to buy add-ons when you don't already have the money in your account.
When you selected the add-on, you were directed to top up. SO now you have $30 sitting in your account. Go back and buy the add-on now and it should start working immediately.

To confirm, is the $30 after "available funds"?
If so, you have to return to the add-ons page and purchase the addon. Take notice to the bottom of this photo:
