I registered and requested phone number transfer from chatr to public mobile 4 days ago.
public mobile confirmed the transfer but my phone tells me that the sim card i installed is no supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server.

your device originally from rogers, if yes then contact rogers to unlock for free.

@judyg1 Usually the carrier you purchased it from would be able to provide the unlock code or Apple? I know Samsung customer support will provide the code but unsure about other phone makers policy.

it is an old iphone that i have had for years. was originally with rogers, then went to chatr. Chatr sim card worked so and i am sure is unlocked the phone quite some time ago.
who would i need to ask to unlock? Apple or chatr?

Did you buy the phone privately?
It could be locked or Blacklisted.
Dial *#06# to get the IMEI of the phone then check on:
https://www.imei.info/carriers/canada/

Sounds like an iphone and sounds like it's locked to a previous provider. You'll need to contact them to get it unlocked through to the Apple servers.
