@RebeccaWitham some possible fixes / culprits:
1. Restart your phone
2. Get a SIM replacement (but first, try the SIM into another device to see if issues persist, and first wait it out a bit, if this is network related)
3. Phone Lost or Blacklisted. Check if your phone is blacklisted here: https://www.devicecheck.ca/check-status-device-canada/
4. Non-Payment of Account (does your account show ACTIVE status: check self serve or call 611 from your device)
5. Temporary interruption in your area

Thanks for your answer on this. I haven't received the notification since turning my phone off and back on again, so that seemed to work.

It's intermittent radio problems. If the tower is not transmitting the LTE signal properly then the phone sees that LTE is no longer there and gives that internal phone notification. It has happened to me once before. It happened to me twice earlier today.
You could turn airplane mode on and off. Or do a restart. To let it reconnect if it can.

@RebeccaWitham @Ferret It could be a glitch from PM. Maybe I'd suggest raising a ticket to PM support to see if there's a problem on their backend?

I'm having the same problem with a message saying the provider has switched off data. I still have kits of data left for this month and so don't know why it would be switched off intermittently by Public Mobile.

Have you checked your data usage in your PM account or on your phone? What plan are you on?
